Anyone who is 18 or older. Those ages 15-17 are allowed to volunteer with a parent or guardian. If you are in need of service hours for school, please send the required form to us at volunteers@cinemastlouis.org.
- What types of volunteer roles are there?
Box office, ticket scanning, handing out programs/ballots/surveys, and selling memberships.
- Do I need prior experience?
Training will be provided for every volunteer role at SLIFF. Orientation materials will be shared by email in advance, including an instructional video. Resource binders are also available at each venue.
- Are the venues accessible for those with mobility needs?
Yes. All SLIFF venues are ADA-accessible.* If you need a seated position due to standing limitations, please be sure to notify us at volunteers@cinemastlouis.org.
*Please note that Washington University is the most complex venue for wheelchair accessibility.
- What are the expectations of volunteers?
Dress in the SLIFF shirt, be professional and friendly when interacting with patrons and other volunteers, be punctual, and commit to the shifts you sign up for during the festival.
- Where do I sign up for my volunteer shifts?
We use Sign Up Genius for the festival. There is a separate Sign Up Genius for each SLIFF venue. Choose the venue you’d like then sign up for your shift. The Sign Up Genius link will be shared on Oct. 11th.
- Who should I contact if I have specific questions ahead of my shift that are not listed in this document?
Email our Hospitality Coordinator, Holland States at volunteers@cinemastlouis.org.
- What should I wear for my volunteer shift?
Your green SLIFF t-shirt with comfortable pants/skirt (no mini-skirts or jeans with holes) and comfortable shoes.
- Is there somewhere to store my belongings during my shift?
Each venue is setup differently, so please only bring what is essential for you. For purses/bags, please keep them small as they will be stored collectively in a secure location during your shift. Feel free to bring your own water bottle and snacks but refrain from eating in front of patrons.
- Is food provided?
No. But, volunteers working at the Hi-Pointe are provided a free small popcorn and soda during their shifts.
- If I arrive at my volunteer venue and have questions upon arrival, who should I talk to?
The venue supervisor or venue captain that is at your venue. It is best to speak with them rather than the venue staff or management because we are guests in the venues and their staff won’t know all of the ins and outs of the festival.
- Can I go in and watch the film showing at my shift?
If the film for the shift is not sold out and there are extra seats, then yes. If the film is sold out, then no.
- Are there any special perks or events for volunteers during the festival?
Yes! Volunteers are encouraged to attend the parties, workshops, and post-fest appreciation event. Details will be communicated with volunteers after completion of shifts. Plus, after each completed shift, you will receive a code for a free movie during SLIFF.
- Can I change or delete my shift once I’ve signed up for it?
Yes, you are able to do this on Sign Up Genius. If you have trouble doing so, email volunteers@cinemastlouis.org.
- If something comes up the day of your shift and you are unavailable to make it, what number should I call?
A dedicated festival phone number, capable of calls and texting, will be provided to volunteers for this purpose.
