With every festival, Cinema St. Louis receives more and more films from around the world produced with some percentage of Generative AI. The conversation amongst the film community has become increasingly polarized and passionate. Regularly, we receive emails from filmmakers who hate everything about AI and others who believe they should be able to use it in their work.
We aren’t interested in taking sides. We are interested in providing a space for honest, thoughtful conversation.
Cinema St. Louis needs to develop an AI policy, but we don’t want to do so without input from our filmmaking community.
This conversation will help us develop a thoughtful AI policy for our festivals and programs, one that’s shaped by the community we serve rather than decided behind closed doors.
Before the discussion, we will screen the film ANOMALY by filmmaker Jack Snyder, who will join Paul Hibbard from Hysteria Fest and General Counsel Sarah Fowler from SAG-AFTRA on a panel discussion. Cinema St. Louis Festival Director Emmett Williams and Marketing Manager Hannah Burtness will moderate.
