Buried Under Years of Dust
Directed by: Sophie Sartain | 30 mins
How does someone go from not communicating for 25 years to narrating her life story? Buried Under Years of Dust traces the remarkable journey of Emily Grodin, a woman silenced by autism, who finally finds her voice… and has a lot to say.
A Story About Voices
Directed by: James Barahanos | 35 mins
A Story About Voices is a participatory / hybrid documentary that follows Shell, a proud Australian Māori and LGBTQIA+ woman who calls herself “the luckiest schizophrenic in the world.” Emerging from the isolation and lows of psychosis, Shell invites the audience into her daily life as she lives with constant auditory hallucinations, recovery, and resilience. Through intimate moments with her family, friends, and the close bond she shares with her daughter, the film offers an honest and humane portrait of schizophrenia—one that educates through lived experience and challenges prejudice by foregrounding connection, identity, and hope.
She Dared to Dream: Ayanna Pressley
Directed by: Abby Ginzberg | 28 mins
She Dared to Dream documents the journey of Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley from her early years in Chicago to the halls of Congress, where she has been a champion for women, especially Black women, to live authentically, as well as a fierce advocate for reproductive rights, eliminating student debt and fighting for affordable housing. As the first African American elected to Congress from Massachusetts, she has remained true to her credo that “those closest to the pain should be closest to the power.”
Plumped
Directed by: Faye Tsakas, Nora DeLigter | 12 mins
Inspired by Les Blank’s seminal short film Gap-Toothed Women (1987), Plumped is an honest, direct-to-camera survey film in which women speak candidly about their experiences with lip filler. While Les Blank’s film centers on the natural physical trait of gap teeth — one women are born with — Plumped deliberately shifts our focus to something manufactured. The film highlights the distinctly modern and instant transformation made possible through medical intervention, and the promise of gratification that comes with it.
