Half Order

HALF ORDER is a cultural documentary exploring the bond between Black culture in St. Louis and the city’s deep love for Chinese takeout.

Filmed and directed by Eric “Remrod” Mayes and co written by Warren Armour, the film dives into the world of St. Louis style fried rice, neighborhood chop sueys, St. Paul sandwiches, and Vess sodas while uncovering the traditions that shaped generations across the city.

Through raw conversations, cinematic storytelling, and an original soundtrack, HALF ORDER explores identity, nostalgia, and the cultural connections built through shared neighborhood experiences. More than a documentary about Chinese food, HALF ORDER is a heartfelt portrait of St. Louis, its people, and the culture that continues to connect them.
